Why Should I Hire a Professional Make-Up Artist?

Your wedding will be one of the most photographed events of your life. When your wedding day has come and gone, you hope to be left with wonderful pictures that capture that “special day”. Unfortunately photographs maximise minor imperfections because they record a flat image, which tends to exaggerate facial flaws. The eye sees in 3-dimensions, but a photograph is only 2-dimensional. A Make-up professional knows how to ues colour and contouring to create a more flattering and natural dimension to the eye, as well as produce a long-lasting, flawless application. With all the money you invest in your dress, jewellery and hair, it would be a shame not to come away with beautiful, flawless pictures too!

How Long Will My Make-Up Last?

The Jane Iredale Mineral Foundations are created for long-lasting wear, that is why so many clients use and promote this particular line of cosmetics. I have had many clients tell me that their make-up lasted the distance of day and night. Most likely your application will last for 12 hours, with occasional touch-ups needed for lips and possibly blot with “Oil Absorbing Tissues” to reduce any shine.

Is Skincare Important?

Yes it is.  Your makeup will only look as good as the canvas (your skin) it is placed on.   If you are not currently using a skin care regimen, you should start this process 6 to 8 months before your wedding day. KJ Artistry can advise of a skincare regime that is appropriate for your skin type and that address your skin concerns.   The basic steps that are needed for any skin type is as follows:  Cleanse, tone, exfoliate, protect, moisturise.

I want my complexion to be radiant for my Special Day, should I get a Facial a couple of days before my Wedding?

No, you should not get a facial, peel or microdermabrasion within 3 weeks of your event.  You want your skin to have time to recover if there is some form of irritation.

I have never had my eyebrows shaped, Is it really that important?

Yes, having your eyebrows shaped will make a huge difference in your appearance.  It will open up your eyes, frame your face, give you and instant lift and help you look pull together.  There are a number of options available for shaping: Tweezing, threading, and waxing.  I would suggest going to an experienced professional.

What type of Foundation should I Wear?

Jane Iredale specialise in Mineral Foundations for all coverage needs. Liquid foundations will give you light to medium coverage.  Cream to Powder and stick foundations will give you full coverage.  Be sure that in choosing a color that there is no line of demarcation between the jaw line and neck.  Make sure your foundation matches your skin tone exactly.

My Make-Up seems to wear off by the end of the day, is there anything that can help my make-up last through out my Wedding Day?

There are couple of things that can help. First, make sure that you are exfoliating so that you are getting all of the dead skin cells off of your face (try using a Microdermabrasion Set – available from KJ Artistry). This will help your make-up adhere to nice new skin cells.  Second, there are number of products on the market that can help.  Foundation Primer, Eye shadow primer and lip primer just to name a few.

I have really dry chapped lips, what can I do to have smooth lips for my Wedding Day?

I would suggest a 2 step lip treatment. Step one is a Mary Kay lip exfoilator this step will take off all of the dead skin.  Step two is a Mary Kay lip balm – this step will keep your lips hydrated.  You should keep the lip balm with you at all times and reapply whenever your lips feel a little dry.  You should also apply the lip balm before you start to apply your make-up. This will ensure that your lips are kissable when you say “I Do”.

I have dry skin, do I need to wear Powder?

Only in the areas that tend to get a little shiny.  That area is usually the t-zone (forehead, nose and chin).   Use a powder as it will give you a sheer less concentrated powdery look.

I have oily skin, what type of face Cleanser should I use?

The best cleanser for someone whose skin is oily is a gentle gel cleanser . A creamy cleanser would have too much moisture and could aid in the production of break outs.

I have blonde hair and blue eyes, what eye make-up would look best on me?

I would suggest natural colors warm browns, warm taupes, and soft peach eye shadows.  Brown, deep brown and taupe eye liner and Black Brown mascara.  These colors will help your blue eyes really stand out with out being over done.

How do I keep my eye make-up from running if I cry?

We use primer, water resistant eyeliner and water proof mascara.
